TRAILS REPORT FOR OCTOBER
Talk about ending our camping season with a bang! Our October campout was the perfect ending to such an awesome camping season. This month, we were at Silver Creek County park in Hamilton. We had an awesome turn-out and the weather was absolutely perfect. Sunny and warm during the day but cool enough for a campfire at night. The leaves were in full color which made for some beautiful riding which we sure did a lot of.
On Saturday night, we got together with the WHAM group for a foil dinner. I'd never had anything like this before, but it sure was great. Folks brought all kinds of foods to put in the foils so we came up with some interesting combinations. The dinner was delicious! I'd love to try that again. After dinner, Brenda made us all a warm dessert with apples, brown sugar and raisins. It smelled so good, even a stray cat tried to sneak a bite.
Sunday morning, Jim, Bob and Gary cooked a breakfast for the crowd. We had sausages, pancakes, eggs, grits, and Bob whipped up a big pan of fried potatoes and onions. Nobody walked away hungry that morning. In fact, I would guess that a few of us had to loosen our belts after that breakfast.
After breakfast, we went out for another awesome ride. The horses were all so well behaved. There's nothing like gaiting along beautiful trails with a group of fellow Rocky lovers.
Unfortunately, this is the last "official" campout of the season. But that doesn't mean that we have to stop camping and riding together. If you're up for a ride, just jot a note to the other folks. Chances are, you'll find someone who would like to hit the trails with you.
Until next year, keep your cinch tight and enjoy your Rocky.

TRAILS REPORT SEPTEMBER 2008
Hungerford Rec.Area
It's raining, it's pouring, at least the trails weren't boring. Our September campout was at Hungerford Lake near Big Rapids. The weatherman promised lots of rain and that's exactly what we got. It rained non-stop the entire weekend. That didn't stop us from riding, though. We'd ride, get soaked, change our clothes and ride some more. A few of us are paying for that fun by dealing with a head cold the next week, but heck, it was worth it!
We had a great turnout of people despite the rain and almost everyone saddled up and rode. On Saturday, we played a fun game called Apples to Apples. We found out that Lee has an amazing talent for talking people into picking her card! On Saturday night, we had a great potluck. The rain let up enough that night for us to sit around the campfire swapping stories.
Sunday morning brought yet another rainstorm. We hauled out our raincoats, dragged on our soggy boots and hit the trails again. We all had a blast gaiting down the trails together.
We have one more campout planned for this year. It will be at Silver Creek Park in Hamilton on the weekend of October 10-12. Hopefully, we'll have some drier weather!
Until then, keep your cinch tight and have fun on your Rocky.

Trails Report
August 2008
Ionia State Rec. Area was where we had our August campout. We had perfect weather, good friends, nice trails, and No Bugs! What more could you ask for? Several folks from our club were there and we were joined by great group of people from the WHAM club again this month. We also had some new club members come camp and ride with us. Carol & Rod are newly transplanted from California. Carol owns a beautiful Rocky gelding named Shiloh that did a great job on the trails. While we were riding, Rod did some hiking and took some pictures. They are a wonderful couple and I hope to see them at more of our campouts.
On Saturday, we headed out for a nice long ride. Shannon trailered in for the day and brought her nice looking Rocky named Max. On Saturday night, we had a potluck. The food was awesome and we all ate so much that no one wanted to ride afterwards so we stayed around the campfire, chatting and telling jokes until well into the night. On Sunday morning, we were back on the trails for another great ride.
If you haven't had the chance to come camp and ride with the club yet, you still have a couple chances. Our next campout is in September at Hungerford Rec. Area (near Big Rapids) and our October campout is at Silver Creek park in Hamilton. Until then, keep your cinch tight and enjoy your Rocky.

July Trails Report
Imagine....rolling hills, trails leading through beautiful pine forests and hearing that wonderful four beat gait that Rocky Mountain horses are known for. We got to experience all that and more on our July campout. This month's campout was at Bob and Brenda Ricksger's farm in Alden. Bob and Brenda have about 800 acres and are lucky enough to have their own private camping area.
On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, the Ricksgers cooked us an awesome breakfast. On Saturday night, they made us pork tenderloin and baked potatoes. I'm pretty certain I gained 5 pounds! We got to do a lot of trail riding and never rode the same trail twice. On Sunday, we stopped by the farm to check out Ricksgers herd of Rockies. I wanted to get a picture of their stallion, Kamacho, but he was...um, pretty busy at the time. Looks like there will be some foals born at the farm next year! Oh I have to tell you that on Saturday night, a car that looked like it came right off the race track at the Indy 500 pulled up. We were all standing there trying to figure out who was crazy enough to drive a car like that into a campground when the doors swung up and out comes Heide and Mike. That is one sweet car guys!
Bob and Brenda must be gluttons for punishment because they already said they'd love to have us back again next year. If you weren't one of the lucky ones to go this time, plan on joining us next year. The campground is awesome, the trails are terrific and the Ricksgers are wonderful hosts. I promise you, you won't go hungry. Until then, keep your cinch tight and have fun on the trails.

Ride Report for April
At last....it's finally camping season (doing the happy dance here). We kicked off the year by going to Silver Creek County park in Hamilton for the 34th annual ride-a-thon. The weather was just perfect! Sunny and mild every day. Everyone had an awesome time on the trails. Due to a car accident and resulting surgery, I rode the lawn chair all weekend but still had a great time visiting with folks. The number of riders for the ride-a-thon was down this year, no doubt due to the ever rising cost of gas, but the amount donated stayed high. Thanks to everyone's combined efforts, over $11,000 was raised for three very worthy charities. What a great way to start the riding season!
happy trails,

Hello and Happy Spring!
This is a reminder of our first campout of the year. It will be at Silver Creek County Park in Hamilton April 18-20. On April 19, there will be a ride-a-thon sponsored by the Allegan County Pleasure Riders. This event usually draws a large crowd. It's common to see in excess of 300 riders participate.
The good news is you can ride on your own so you won't be in with a large group of horses. The trails are well marked and lunch is provided. After the ride, there is a drawing for all kinds of awesome prizes.
Hope to see you there.
happy trails,
